Red Tide
Brand Identity | Multi Media | Illustration | Installation
A multimedia project driven by a deep passion for marine life and lo-fi music, seamlessly blending symbolic elements to create captivating visuals for the audience.
Challenge
Originating from a 38 x 52 cm illustration created in 2019, I expanded the project into a full-scale installation with four additional illustrations in 2023 and aim to extend it across three different media by 2024. The process required transitioning from instinctive artistry to purposeful storytelling across diverse mediums.
Intention
Building on the original concept of sharks from the illustration, I expanded the focus to broader ocean environmental issues, exploring ecological cycles and the destructive impacts of overfishing, shipping, and resource exploitation. It challenges the viewer to reflect: who is pushing the boundaries of our natural environment?
The symbols used in the work echo my appreciation for lo-fi music, both sharing a beauty in complexity through simple symbols and fragmented elements. With a strong visual tone, I aimed to present environmental concerns in a fresh and creative way, using music as one of the media to convey the environmental message.
Outcome
2019 Work: Illustration on cold press board
2023 Work: Installation space featuring four strips of illustration
2024 Work: Music app, vinyl record, album booklet, concert billboard, and tickets
